Glossary
Vans – Load carrying vehicles available in different sizes, and sometimes based on a car. As well as transporting and delivering goods, vans are often used by people who drive between jobs such as plumbers and electricians. The Ford Transit is probably the best known van, and is available in both front and rear wheel drive.
Vehicle Tax – A legal requirement for any vehicle kept or used on a UK road. The amount of tax paid depends on the sort of vehicle, and its CO2 emissions. The more CO2 produced, the higher the tax. Vehicles producing less than 100g of CO2 per KM pay no tax. Smaller cars tend to pay less tax as they produce less CO2. A diesel Citroen C2 produces around 113 g/km of CO2 whilst a high performance C Class Mercedes produces up to 232 g/km.
Warranty – The guarantee that the vehicle will be free from manufacturing defects for a given period. If there are any defects, the manufacturer will resolve the problem at no cost to the customer. There may be certain conditions that affect the warranty, such as the vehicle must be maintained as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Consumable items such as tyres, exhausts, bulbs and batteries are unlikely to be covered under the terms of the warranty.
